Here’s your unemployment update for Sunday, April 25th, 2021

Unemployed residents in Kentucky will soon be required to prove they are searching for work at least once a week in order to receive benefits.

A new executive order signed by Governor Andy Beshear goes into effect May 9th.

Sarah Davasher, President and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. stated, “As vaccinations increase and case counts decrease and we find ourselves coming out of this pandemic, businesses are trying to get people hired, and that has been quite a struggle.”

She believes people aren’t applying mainly because they cannot find childcare for students in hybrid learning, and unemployed Kentuckians have not had to search for a job in order to receive benefits.

Amy Cubbage, Gov. Beshear’s General Counsel, told reporters during a recent news conference that unemployed Kentuckians will be given a reasonable amount of time to find work compared to what they had in the past.
