But first, the Massachusetts House unanimously approved a wide-ranging tax relief, paid emergency sick leave, and unemployment system funding bill.
Both laid-off workers and employers benefit from this bill, which is aimed at stabilizing the state’s unemployment system, paid sick leave programs to employees, and tax breaks on forgiven PPP loans from 2020.
House Speaker Ron Mariano told reporters after the bill’s passage that “the thrust of the bill is always about getting people back to work.”
Senate leaders in Massachusetts are expected to take the bill up next week.
Up next, the new relief bill signed by President Biden on Thursday will extend unemployment benefits to thousands of people in Wisconsin, but it could be a while before the state starts sending it out.
Current benefits expire today but the state has still to disperse some of the benefits that were apart of December’s stimulus package.
