Texas was caught with their hand in the cookie jar, as upwards of $17.9 billion have been directed away from their purpose of assisting school across the Lone Star State.

In a letter written to Congress from leading Texas politicians, they explained: “due to bad faith denial and delay of these funds, not a single dollar of the already-approved ESSER funds have reached Texas schools.”

They also wrote: “We cannot accomplish the important goal, which we share with the Administration, of reopening schools safely when the ten percent of America’s school-aged children living in Texas are denied access to essential federal assistance.”

They closed by stating: “We urge the Department to act clearly on behalf of Texas students by ensuring that federal dollars reach our schools.”

Hopefully these billions of dollars of disaster relief funds can go back to their original purpose of funding schools across Texas, as students everywhere should be a priority with ample funds provided to allow children to once again learn together in public.
