Unemployment Update 11–4–20

During the month of October, private employers hired fewer workers than anticipated, according to a report from the ADP National Employment Report released today.

Instead of the 650,000 jobs that economists predicted would be created last month, private employers only hired 365,000 workers.

Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute, explained: “The labor market continues to add jobs yet at a slower pace.”

He continued: “Although the pace is slower, we’ve seen employment gains across all industries and sizes.”

Hopefully, these sectors can start rehiring at a quicker rate, creating more jobs for hard working Americans in need of employment.

Meanwhile, the great state of Florida voted yesterday to approve a $15 minimum wage by the year 2026.

Receiving 60.8% of the necessary 60% for the ballot initiative to be approved, the minimum wage in the Sunshine State will continue to rise from its current $8.56 an hourly wage.

With the passage of Amendment 2, roughly 2.5 million Floridians will receive a raise, as well as lift 1.3 million households out of poverty.

This is great news for workers across Florida, who deserve to be paid a living wage, since $8.56 an hour is not enough to get by in 2020.

Finally, with so many people out of work and in need of new employment, I thought it would be interesting to look at a recent article from CNBC with a futurist, that outlined skill sets and free courses to make yourself more marketable in this ever-changing world.

The article states: “Futuristic thinking is the ability to predict future events and trends, and how they might impact your industry.”

These are the skill sets that futurists believe give you the best chance of finding employment heading into 2021, and the free courses you can take to master these skills, which I’ll link to down below.

Leadership skills — Leadership qualities often result in raises and promotions, so don’t be afraid to take on new roles and responsibilities to prove that you can handle more work and get paid for it.

Emotional intelligence — The ability to recognize and manage social and emotional behaviors, allows you to establish better relationships and relate to more people.

Cognitive flexibility — By adapting to new situations and providing valuable creative input on the spot, you are well-positioned to become a vital team member with a secure position.

Hopefully, you can use this article and the free courses provided to gain more skill sets and allow you to finally get the job that you deserve as we head into the new year.

If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, handle your business and get your application into your state’s system.

Check out your state’s PUA or UI website, give them your employment history, and explain that you’re currently out of work due to that thing out there.

For about 30 minutes of your time, you could be eligible to receive a backdated unemployment check for $10,000!

To all of the gig-workers, self-employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers, volunteers, and freelancers, these are PUA unemployment benefits and not the typical unemployment insurance that you never paid into.

Don’t miss out on your chance to get these incredible government unemployment benefits before they expire on December 31st.
