While that thing out there may have cost people their jobs, more Americans are becoming their own bosses.
Labor Department data show that in October, while nonfarm payroll jobs remained down 6.6% what’s called nonfarm unincorporated self-employment was recovering faster, down just 2.4%
Workers are tapping into online platforms to supplement another form of income.
Census Bureau data shows, that applications by businesses not expected to have employees surged 32% in the first nine months of 2020 from a year earlier.
It’s great to see people taking matters into their hands and becoming entrepreneurs to adapt.
Universal Orlando Resort notified more than 1,100 employees that they will be laid off before the end of the year.
According to paperwork filed with the state, the company notified 1,123 workers that by Dec. 31st they would be laid off.
Unfortunately, layoffs have been common in the theme park industry since the pandemic began.
The company said a full recovery will take time, so they “had to make very difficult decisions including reducing some of its workforce.”
And according to the documents, the layoffs do impact employees who worked in the company’s creative division and executive offices.
Thanks to a new program, Virginia can provide up to $1.1 million or up to $3,000 in free tuition and training per student to local people who have lost their jobs.
Virginia allocated $30 million in CARES Act funds to help the unemployed pursue workforce training in a high-demand field.
The new Re-Employing Virginians, dubbed REV initiative, will provide scholarships to eligible individuals to enroll in a workforce or community college program in 5 essential industries.
That includes health care, information technology, skilled trades, public safety, and early childhood education at Germana Community College.
The initiative will provide one-time REV scholarships of $3,000 to register in a qualifying full-time workforce program and $1,500 in a part-time non-credit training program.
Just visit your state’s PUA or UI website, submit your supporting documents and employment history, and let them know that you’re currently out of work due to that thing out there,
