Stimulus Update 11–7–20

Here’s your daily stimulus check, your second stimulus check, your executive action, order, memorandums, moratoriums, and stimulus package update for Saturday, November 7th, 2020.

Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the state of Iowa will be providing $28 million to hospitals and county health departments

This plan was put in place to assist with Covid needs.

Gov. Reynolds explained, “As COVID19 continues to impact Iowans, it is putting a strain on both staffings at our hospitals as well as local public health departments.”

The funding is coming from the CARES Act from the first stimulus package.

Of the $28 million, $25 million will be specifically for staffing needs at medical centers and the other $3 million is for county health departments.

Reynolds explained, “These added funds will provide much-needed relief to hospitals to support their staffing needs in this critical time.”

Meanwhile, Mitch McConnel and Pelosi clashed Friday over a new relief bill with McConnell continuing to urge for a skinny bill while Pelosi is already rejecting it.

Lawmakers are expected to return to the Capitol next week for Congress’s post-election session.

McConnell called for a narrow relief bill Friday as new job reports showed the unemployment rate had fallen.

McConnell said, “I do think we need another one, but I think it reinforces the argument that I’ve been making for the last few months that something smaller is more appropriate, with it highly targeted towards things that are directly related to the virus.”

Then as reporters asked Pelosi for her thoughts on McConnell’s suggestion.

Pelosi stated, “No it doesn’t appeal to me at all because they still have not agreed to crush the virus.”

It is a little unclear where comprises lie, but we are glad to see that this issue is being brought back to their attention.

And finally, stimulus negotiations may start back up again on Monday as the Senate returns to Washington now that we have our projected winner.

The gridlock stimulus negotiations on Capital Hill just got a major shakeup: a Biden Win.

Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have failed to reach any agreement.

Now, an incoming Biden administration is already changing the dynamics of stimulus debates.

Proposals from both sides have included another round of stimulus payments of up to $1,200 for individuals who meet the requirements, enhanced unemployment insurance, and extending the paycheck protection program.

The Democratic President-elect made it clear during the campaign that he favored a larger stimulus package, like the one put forward by House Democrats.

According to The Washington Post, Democrats seek $600 per week, and Republicans in the Senate and administration aim for $300 or $400 on top of the individual’s usual unemployment benefit.

The White House’s $1.8 trillion offer includes $300 billion for state and local funding that would in part pay the salaries of first responders, health care workers, and families.

The Democrat’s $2.2 trillion deal sets aside $1 trillion for state and local funding.

We hope this becomes the first priority when they return, now that we can put the election behind us.

That was your stimulus check, your second stimulus check, your executive action and stimulus package update for Saturday, November 7th, 2020
