State Passes Bill for Permanent Rental Assistance
A spike in fraudulent activity has led the Vermont Department of Labor to stop accepting first-time unemployment claims online.
Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington says the department took action after a review found that up to 90% of new claims were being flagged as fraudulent.
Harrington stated, “Our ultimate goal is to protect Vermonters, whether that be ensuring individuals receive timely benefits or preventing fraudsters from using the identities of innocent Vermonters to defraud the state.”
Now people who need to file first-time unemployment claims must call the department.
Hopefully, this can solve the issue and the process doesn’t take as long now that it’s over the phone.
Meanwhile, in Nevada, the chairman of the State Senate Finance Committee has rejected Republicans’ proposal to overhaul the state’s unemployment insurance system.
Republicans proposed a bill that calls for a single computer system that connects all state-administered, extended benefits and federal programs such as the PUA.
