New Deadline Second Stimulus Check $1,200

But first, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, but they’re on the same page about one thing.
After months at a stalemate, Congress is inching towards a $908 billion stimulus that excludes $1,200 direct payments to every American.
Ocasio-Cortez told NBC News, “If people don’t get UI assistance and if they don’t get a stimulus check, then relief isn’t going to be felt in their lives, not in a substantial way.”
Hawley showed his support that stimulus checks should be included in the next bill by tweeting, “I will gladly work with AOC and everyone else who wants to help working families.”
He continued: “Families and working people in need should be the FIRST consideration in virus relief, not last.”
Meanwhile, President-elect seems to be hoping that $1,200 stimulus checks could still be on the table for negotiations.
When asked about reports that progressive Democrats such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez wanted to see direct payment as part of the bill, Biden replied: “It would be better if they had the $1,200, that may be still in play.”
Interestingly, direct payments were one of the areas Democrats and the White House initially agreed upon, but more conservative Republicans have left stimulus checks out their skinny bill.
With time running out, Biden has cautioned before that not everyone is going to get everything they want.
However, Biden is promising that whatever happens this round, this stimulus bill is a “down payment” with “more to come early next year.”
This leaves us hopeful that another stimulus package is in the works for 2021 with stimulus checks.
And finally, Congress is weighing a weeklong stopgap measure to avoid a government shutdown after current funding runs out next week.
According to the Hill, “A House Democratic leadership aide said that a one-week stopgap measure is likely as negotiators continue ironing out a full-year spending bill in which long-stalled economic relief would be attached.”
That means extending the deadline for another week despite Pelosi saying she is aiming to wrap up their 2020 work by the end of next week.
A stopgap funding bill lasting through Dec. 18 would delay their initial timeline.
One Democratic aide cautioned “that a stopgap bill, known as a continuing resolution, is possible but not set in stone yet.”
Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby even predicted that “Congress would need a short-term funding bill to give the negotiators more time to complete a mammoth spending bill.”
This is even pulling into question Pelosi’s comments on Friday where she stated, “We’ll take the time we need, and we must get it done.”
