Leading economist Kelvin L. Wise from AFCSME outlined why unemployment aid is still essential and needed for millions of people across America.

Describing his frustration with his home state of Florida looking to end extended enhanced unemployment benefits early, he stated: “It seems to me that they are putting politics over the welfare of the state and his constituents.”

He also said: “The governor seems to think that unemployed workers are vacationing on their so-called generous unemployment compensation instead of looking for employment.”

He closed by saying: “This federal unemployment stimulus money is a vital economic development tool that is designed to pump needed dollars into the economy. Ending the stimulus funds would pull about $700 million in resulting stimulus out of our economy.”

It’s great to see more and more economists speaking out regarding vital federal unemployment benefits, and I hope that our leaders in Washington can hear our demands to keep delivering these important stimulus funds to millions of struggling Americans.
