Talks are underway in the great state of Missouri to forgive overpaid unemployment funds paid out to unknowing citizens in the Show-Me State.

US Representatives Cori Bush explained: “The overpayment of these benefits is a mistake by the state, and any attempts to seek repayment from beneficiaries not at fault at a time when tens of thousands of Missourians are out of work and struggling to make ends meet is cruel.”

Governor Mike Parson stated: “I don’t think we’re going to do a blanket policy where we just say everybody gets the money back without having some sort of ability to be able to check in case that system was utilized for fraud or something like that.”

While he has softened his stance recently, I hope that he can get on board with eliminating the collection of overpaid unemployment benefits, especially since the claimants did nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, the great state of Michigan recently started paying out the extra $100 extended enhanced unemployment benefits thanks to the Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation Program.
