JUST NOW Unemployment Extension NEW UPDATE Retroactive $300 FPUC & Unemployment Benefits Stimulus
A recent report from the Government Accountability Office found that $6.2 billion in overpayments had been made over the past 12 months, from state PUA and UI unemployment programs.
The report found: “states had identified more than $3.6 billion in PUA overpayments from March 2020 through February 2021. In addition, states identified $2.6 billion in regular unemployment insurance overpayments in the last three quarters of 2020.”
They also said: “overpayments are not necessarily a result of fraud, though some maybe,” and also explained that states have the option to either collect these overpayments or waive the repayments and let the people keep their extra unemployment benefits.
Hopefully, states will waive the requirement to pay back these vital unemployment benefits, especially if they were a result of a glitch or error in the state unemployment system and can be proven to be legitimate and not fraudulent.
