Nick Bunker, director of research at the Indeed hiring lab believes the American job market will get back to where it should be sometime around the summer of 2023. In an interview, Bunker was asked numerous questions on the state of the job market and what he and his team are seeing in their research. When asked about the more than 40% of Americans who say they have enough saved to hold off on applying for jobs, Bunker said, “Some job seekers seem to be able to be more patient with their job search. These other sources of income mean they don’t feel the need to jump right into a job.” He continued, “A whole host of things will have to happen. Demand for workers is very strong right now, but we’ll need to see it stay strong for quite some time.” But he says one of the biggest requirements to get Americans back to work is their pay. Bunker explains, “The trends in wage growth suggest that many firms are finding increases in pay not only possible but necessary.” So I guess I owe President Biden an apology, “pay them more” is good advice. It will be interesting to see if Bunker ends up being right about what is needed to lower unemployment, I guess we’ll just have to wait. Meanwhile, a recent report shows that Americans are fed up with looking for work…
