As of today, a total of 24 state governors have announced they plan to end the $300 weekly federal unemployment benefits early.

Additional benefits will end as early as June 12th, not the previously scheduled September 6th date that was passed under the American Rescue Plan.

While everyone’s circumstances are different, don’t wait to take action.

Here are 6 steps to take if your benefits are about to expire.

1. Contact Your Unemployment Office.

Since these states are ending federal unemployment early, it is worth checking if your available for the state’s unemployment benefit.

The length of time you can receive benefits varies from state to state.

Some of the federal programs were designed to benefit gig/ freelance workers who wouldn’t otherwise qualify for unemployment.

Contact your state’s unemployment office and double-check if you qualify.

2. Adjust your budget

If you’re going to lose these benefits, you should try to reduce the necessary costs without sacrificing your well-being and health.
