GOOD UNEMPLOYMENT NEWS! Unemployment Extension UPDATE FPUC PUA Unemployment Benefits Rent Assistance
It’s Thursday, which means we’ve got to discuss the current state of the US economy and unemployment rates across America in this week’s jobs report from our friends at the Department of Labor.
Fortunately, this week’s jobs report displayed good news for the economy, as the actual unemployment figures were lower than last week’s numbers, but underperformed the estimates of those economists at the DOW Jones.
The weekly report showed that 411,000 Americans filed their first-time unemployment claims, which is slightly lower than the previous week’s 418,000 revised initial claims.
They were also above the 380,000 first time claims predicted by the economists.
Ian Shepherdson, the chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, explained: “We expect new lows for initial claims in July; letting people go in increasing numbers now makes no sense as the economy rebounds.”
While I’d love to see our weekly unemployment numbers drop into the 300,000’s, it’s nice to see decreasing figures and hope that this is the start of a new streak of declining first-time unemployment claims.
