Exposing Zuckerberg: What They’re Not Telling You About Metaverse
Mark Zuckerberg unveiled his new master plan: to create what’s essentially “internet 2.0,” a “place” where we can just plug into and interact with this online space in a virtual world. The applications of this Metaverse are admittedly pretty appetizing, like the supposed ability to mine digital currency from this online world.
Anyone see Ready Player One?
Zuckerberg in a promotional video highlighted several key aspects or concepts of the Metaverse: presence, avatars, home space, teleporting, interoperability, privacy and safety, virtual goods, and natural interfaces. “While this may sound like science fiction,” Zuckerberg said in the promo, “we’re starting to see a lot of these technologies coming together.”
The Facebook (now Meta) CEO showed off the ability to create your own space called Horizon Home, as well as the more ambitious Horizon Worlds. If this all sounds like a glorified video game… well…
The CEO of Epic Games — the minds behind the massively popular Fortnite — Tim Sweeney also has some ideas about the Metaverse, which isn’t surprising coming from the head of the most popular online video game in history. Fortnite has already had a taste of this with virtual concerts and virtual short film festivals.
