Elon Musk’s Tesla Bot Might Steal Your Job (But Also Guarantee Universal Basic Income)
Some of you probably saw that Elon Musk unveiled his new ambitious project: a humanoid robot made by his very own car-company, Tesla. Much like a Tesla vehicle, this “Tesla Bot” will have autopilot and navigation programmed right into it, so it won’t go around running into things (although Tesla owners know the technology could still use some work).
The Tesla Bot, while sounding pretty gimmick-y, is designed to handle the mundane or annoying jobs that us humans don’t like doing. The problem is… a lot of us humans do mundane and annoying work to put bread on the table.
Since robots don’t need bread, there is a concern about the ethics of this and whether or not it will steal hard-earned jobs from hard-working people. I mean, yes, if this is the goal of the Tesla Bot, some jobs will be lost.
So, what does Elon Musk propose?
The billionaire futurist told CNBC: “There is a pretty good chance we end up with a universal basic income, or something like that, due to automation. Yeah, I am not sure what else one would do. I think that is what would happen.”
