With the monthly $250 or $300 per child tax credits coming our way in just a few weeks, it’s important to realize that these disaster relief funds differ slightly from the three rounds of stimulus checks sent out to struggling Americans.

Starting in July, eligible families will get $250 for every child aged 6 through 17, with families getting $300 per child for every kid under age 6.

Instead of all child dependents getting stimulus checks, these child tax credits can only be obtained if there is a minor living in the household to be able to claim these new stimulus checks.

Alvin Carlos, financial planner and managing partner for District Capital Management explained: ‘‘I wouldn’t be surprised if some people get confused, thinking it’s the fourth round of stimulus checks.’’
