DECEMBER 11 (DEADLINE NEXT WEEK!?) Biden’s Stimulus Package SSI Second Stimulus Check Update $1,200
9 Days House Congress Senate to Pass before the End of the Year 2021. Can Biden and Trump House and Senate Congress?
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is not in favor of the recently proposed, bipartisan stimulus package, featuring a price tag of $908 billion.
Explaining that the new bill is not as focused as he prefers, McConnell stated: “We just don’t have time to waste time.”
He described his preference for a “targeted relief bill,” and appears to be standing firm at that $500 billion range for an upcoming stimulus package.
With the December 11th deadline for Congress to pass their own funding bill coming up soon, McConnell believes that stimulus relief and government fiscal support will: “all likely come in one package.”
Since we know that Congress is going to take care of themselves, I just hope that they can slide in some stimulus measures as well, to help us across the 2020 finish line and into the new year without significant financial issues.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin talked for the first time since Election Day, sparking new life into negotiations on a Phase 4 disaster relief bill.
Speaking over the phone for their meeting yesterday, Pelosi commented on the talks, stating: “On relief, we acknowledged the recent positive developments on vaccine development and the belief that it is essential to significantly fund distribution efforts to get us from vaccine to vaccination.”
Mnuchin had this to say regarding the negotiations: “There’s more work to be done. I’d urge Congress to pass something quickly to make sure we get something done.”
It’s certainly encouraging to see Pelosi and Mnuchin talking about terms on a new stimulus package, especially since they haven’t spoken about a new bill in a month.
Finally, President-Elect Joe Biden offered some hope that another stimulus package could be approved before he takes office in January.
Speaking yesterday in Delaware, Biden explained: “Right now, the full Congress should come together and pass a robust package for relief to address these urgent needs.”
Biden also offered some reassurance that: “any package passed in a lame-duck session is lucky to be at best just a start.”
This is great news, as anything that gets approved over the next couple of months will be just the tip of the stimulus iceberg.
While it could mean that we might need to wait a little bit longer to get the huge stimulus package that we’ve been waiting for since April, at least Biden is offering some hope that we’ll see targeted disaster relief soon, and a wide-reaching stimulus package later.
