Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways to earn income online.

It’s a sales tactic that not only benefits a product owner but also allows you to earn a passive income while you let your audience rack up performance.

Affiliate marketing can be a profitable side hustle that allows you to earn money while you sleep.

With affiliate marketing, it is free to do and it can become a startup that becomes more than a side hustle.

How does affiliate marketing work?

The way it works is it involves a product or service to be referred to on a social media platform or website and for every purchase, the affiliate earns a commission.

Product owners get in an increase in sales but you also get to earn a piece as an affiliate because you referred them to that product through a designated link.

You earn a commission on product sales that you didn’t create. As an affiliate, the role is to educate the customers of the product to drive sales.

“81% of brands and 84% of publishers leverage the power of affiliate marketing, a statistic that will continue to increase as affiliate marketing spending increases every year in the United States.”

Getting Started

To get started in affiliate marketing you’ll need to join an affiliate program. Some programs have different flat rates per sale or percentages. Through these programs, you can choose which offers to promote.

When you choose which offers to promote they’ll likely ask you for a link to your platform.

A blog or a youtube channel are the most popular choices in building an audience. Youtube is a free platform where you can add affiliate links for people to click on in the description.

Once you begin your online platform, it’s best to focus on a specific category to start in. Research how popular a category is before starting.

It’s best to choose categories that have a more focused category as less specific categories will just increase the amount of competition to other viewers.

Of course, choose something that you’re interested in. It’s easier to discuss something that you actually have a passion for and that will keep you motivated to keep posting about. It also builds trust with your audience that you actually enjoy the products that you’re recommending to people.

Then through affiliate programs can you identify what brands fit your specific category that also matches your blog or website.

Your goal as an affiliate marketer is to inform your audience and to let them learn everything about the product.

Brands that match your own will help build that audience that you’ve created.

While affiliate marketing is a source of passive income, it also requires a lot of effort and motivation as it takes time to build an audience.

It a powerful way to make money online as your review will be out there for others to get know about.
