$1000 NEXT MONTH?! Unemployment Extension NEW UPDATE $300 FPUC PUA Unemployment Benefits Stimulus
It’s finally Thursday, which means we’ve got to talk about the latest details on the US economy and unemployment numbers in this week’s jobs report from our friends over at the Department of Labor (DOL).
This week’s jobs report showed lukewarm news for the economy, as the actual unemployment figures were higher than last week, and underperformed the estimates of the economists from the DOW Jones.
The weekly report showed that 719,000 Americans filed their first-time unemployment claims, which is higher than the previous week’s 658,000 revised initial claims.
These numbers are also above the 675,000 first-time claims predicted by economists but are still much lower than the 800K-900K figures from a few months ago.
Ian Shepherdson, the chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, explained: “We expect a sustained sharp decline in the second quarter as the economy reopens, making it easier for businesses under financial stress to hold onto employees.”
While I’d love to see consecutive weeks of decreasing initial unemployment claims, it does seem like we’ve turned a curve and are heading…
